Our gray weather is due to what meteorologists call an “Omega Block”, and this is something you can better understand by looking at a picture. The image above shows the upper level wind flow pattern across the U.S. for this coming Friday, and a strong omega block is present. Note the strong upper level lows

We saw some very heavy rain in some areas last night, while other areas ended up with just a decent soaking. More rain is coming tonight, and through Friday, with another 1-2 inches of rain will fall in some areas. Most areas will get at least another half an inch. Here are some COCORAHS rainfall
Rain and thunder will return to the area tonight, and some areas may see over 1.5 inches of rain. Look for widespread rain totals of over .5 inches tonight and through late morning Tuesday. Showers will linger for the rest of the week as well, as an upper-level low pressure system develops over the region.
